TEXANS ADVANCE TO STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The Northwest Texans knocked off Alamo Heights 65-54 in the 5A state semifinals Thursday night in San Antonio. Sammie Freeman had a 13-point, 17-rebound double-double in the win. Northwest has now won 18 straight games dating back to December. The Texans will play Port Arthur Memorial at 3 p.m. Saturday in the championship game. If Northwest wins, it will be its first state title in school history.

LINEN SALE FUNDRAISER – The Wise Health System Volunteer Auxiliary will hold a fundraiser luxury linen sale 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday in the main lobby of the hospital. Proceeds benefit the auxiliary.

HOME AND LAWN SHOW – The Wise County Home and Lawn Show is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Decatur Conference Center.

LUMINARIA BAGS AVAILABLE – Relay For Life Wise County will be at the Wise County Home and Lawn show Saturday. You can purchase luminaria bags to celebrate, honor or remember those who have won their battle with cancer and those who are still fighting the fight. Luminaries are $5 each. MUSICAL GUESTS – Grandpa’s Neighbors will be singing in the evening service of Grace Baptist Church in Decatur 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

COALITION MEETING – The Wise County Community Coalition meets at noon Monday, March 12, at Pizza Hut in Decatur. For information call 940-799-1077.

HOSPITAL AUXILIARY SCHOLARSHIP – Graduating seniors from the seven Wise County high schools, a private school graduating senior or a home schooled senior may apply for a $1,000 scholarship from Wise Health System Hospital Auxiliary. Interested students need to have at least a 3.0 grade point average, live in Wise County and plan on pursuing a degree in the healthcare field. Applications can be found on the Wise Health System website and will be accepted until April 4.

COMMISSIONERS MEET MONDAY – Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin Monday will give county commissioners an update on the school resource officer program and his meetings with local superintendents. The commissioners will also hear an update from Doug Shaw with the Upper Trinity Groundwater Conservation District Board. The meeting is 9 a.m. in the third-floor conference room of the Wise County Courthouse in Decatur. It’s open to the public.

FUNERALS – Memorial service for Carolyn Huffman, 70, of Lake Bridgeport will be held at a later date. Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

MEMORIAL service for Jerry Sherman, 73, of Rhome is 1 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at Cornerstone Baptist Church. Jones Family Funeral Home-Decatur is handling arrangements.

MEMORIAL service for Gloria Eller, 60, of Runaway Bay is 3 p.m. Saturday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport.

MEMORIAL for Brandon Vencill, 34, of Newark will be at a later date. Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd is handling arrangements.

MEMORIAL for William Hughes, 65, of Boyd is 2 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at Aurora Baptist Church in Aurora. Family visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church. Hawkins-Boyd is handling arrangements.

MEMORIAL for Mary Katherine Carpenter, 83, of Decatur is 2 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton.
