STATUE FOR EDGEMON – A GoFundMe page is set up to raise money for a statue to honor retired Newark Fire Chief James Edgemon. The proposed life-size statue would be of Edgemon helping a child spray a fire hose – a tribute to the past, present and future. (See image on the GoFundMe page.) Possible locations for the statue are the city park or in front of the fire hall. The fundraising goal is $48,000. To contribute, go to www.gofundme.com/statue-fund-to-honor-fire-chief. WEEKEND RAIN CHANCES – Rain chances return to this weekend’s forecast with a 40 percent chance of rain on Sunday. Highs are expected to be in the upper 50s through the weekend.

3 HURT IN SLIDELL WRECK – Three people were injured in a two vehicle wreck around 8 a.m. Thursday near the Slidell school campus. Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Chesley Womack said a Jeep driven by Caitlin Pruitt, 21, was southbound on a driveway near the elementary school when she apparently failed to yield at the intersection with County Road 2822. She struck a southbound 1962 Ford F-250 vehicle driven by Stone Coston, 17, who was on his way to school. Both drivers and a passenger in Coston’s vehicle, his 13-year-old sister Jaden, were injured. Pruitt and Jaden Coston were taken by ambulance to Denton Regional Hospital. Stone Coston was taken by private vehicle to the same hospital. Womack said the injuries were “serious, but not life-threatening.” He said Pruitt may have been blinded by the sun and didn’t see the other vehicle.

CITIZENS GROUP MEETING – Wise Citizens for Property Rights, a group that is petitioning for an election to end involuntary annexation in the county, will meet 6 p.m. Monday at the Lion’s Club in Bridgeport. The meeting will include discussion of the petition, a free dinner and guest Pat Fallon.

BLOOD DRIVE – A Carter BloodCare blood drive will be held 11:30 a.m.-4:45 p.m. today at Decatur Wal-Mart. Donors will receive a t-shirt and a ticket voucher for a Dallas Mavericks game.

FOOD PANTRY OPEN SATURDAY – The Decatur Cares mobile food pantry will be in the parking lot of the Decatur ISD Administration Building, 309 S. Cates St., at a new time of 8:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday. It’s open to anyone in the community who needs help with groceries. The 18-wheeler full of food comes to Decatur the first Saturday of every month throughout the year.

FUNERAL for Jesse Coker, 94, of Rhome is 10 a.m. Saturday at Hawkins Chapel in Decatur with burial at Prairie Mound Cemetery in Argyle. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

MEMORIAL service for Carol Rosas, 51, of Decatur is 1 p.m. Saturday at Decatur Lions Club. Hawkins-Decatur is handling arrangements.

GRAVESIDE service for John White, 75, of Decatur is 2 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Grove Cemetery No. 1 in Decatur. Family visitation is 6-7 tonight at Hawkins-Decatur.

SERVICES for Andre Silmon of Dallas and Freddie Belote, 69, and Willis “Bill” Knight, 88, both of Decatur will be held at a later date. Hawkins-Decatur is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Dennis V. Walton, 94, of Azle is 11 a.m. today at Azle Church of Christ with burial at Azleland Cemetery. Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Charles Bert Boydstun, 76, of Decatur is 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Burkburnett Memorial Cemetery. Family visitation is 10 a.m. Saturday prior to the graveside at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett.

SERVICE for Billy G. Reed, 87, of Lake Bridgeport is pending at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

FUNERAL for Alta “Corky” Cate, 89, of Justin is 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Justin with burial at Justin Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the church. DeBerry Funeral Directors are handling arrangements.

MEMORIAL service for Marion Kurosky, 80, is 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, at Faith Tabernacle Assembly of God in Fort Worth. White Family Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

MEMORIAL service for Norma Aline Parrish, 81, is 2 p.m. Saturday at Morrison Funeral Home Chapel in Graham. She was the mother of Keith Cornell of Decatur.
