WRECK VICTIM IDENTIFIED – The driver of a tractor trailer who died at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth Thursday from injuries sustained in an early morning two-vehicle accident on U.S. 287/81 just north of Farm Road 407 has been identified as Juan Jasso, 36. Jasso died in the emergency room of the hospital after being flown there by medical helicopter. Department of Public Safety Trooper Patrick Garcia said the tractor trailer and a white passenger car were northbound on U.S. 287/81. “We’re not sure why [the truck driver] took evasive action,” Garcia said. “The 18-wheeler lost control, started into a side roll, struck the passenger car from the rear and then proceeded to roll into the median.” The driver of the car was also taken to JPS.
WEATHER CHANGES AHEAD – After a high near 80 degrees this afternoon, big changes are expected overnight. A strong cold front will bring brisk north winds, and temperatures will drop to around 31 degrees overnight. Wise County is included in a wind advisory and a freeze watch from 7 p.m. today to 7 a.m. Saturday. Our area will also see rain chances around 30 percent from late this afternoon to early Saturday morning. Saturday’s high is expected to be 49.
ROAD CLOSURE – Three Skillet Road will be closed at the bridge from 7 p.m. today until 5 a.m. Sunday. One lane traffic will resume Monday morning.
OPENING DAY EVENT – The Bridgeport Youth Association will host Opening Day Saturday at the Lawdwin Fields. The event will include a day full of baseball, bounce houses, face painting, t-shirt sales, food truck and a concession.
