Greenwood/Slidell Fire Department Assistant Chief Tim Fletcher said the approximate 3,100-square-foot home was completely involved when firefighters arrived.
“From the start we had to go defensive,” Fletcher said. “It was already fully involved. The garage is the only thing salvageable.”
No one was at home when the fire started, according to Fletcher. The homeowner reported that there were a couple of cats in the home.
High winds fueled the flames as firefighters worked to contain it to the main structure and the garage.
“One of our concerns was with the high, dry vegetation on the back side,” Fletcher said. “We have three brush rigs here with the wind picking up through the night.”
