A fire heavily damaged a Decatur home and left three displaced early Saturday morning.

At 1:10 a.m., Decatur Fire responded to a structure fire at 121 County Road 2140 in Decatur.

The three inside, Gary and Bennette Tanner and their 2-year-old grandchild were able to escape the home safely.

“Our units arrived to find the backside of the house heavily involved,” Decatur Deputy Fire Chief Nate Mara said. “The owners and occupants self extricated with no injuries.”

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

“It spread from the backside of the house up into the attic,” Mara said. “Once it got into the attic it travelled pretty quickly.”

Crews from the Greenwood-Slidell Fire Department and the Alvord Fire Department provided mutual aid.

By around 3 a.m. Saturday morning the crews were performing mop up duty.
