Boyd ISD trustees Monday night approved upgrades to the existing baseball and softball fields, putting in artificial turf, net backstops, renovating the dugouts and replacing side fences.
The cost of the project is $1,081,391. The district will pull money out of its reserves for the project.
The fields are expected to be ready for the teams’ district openers March 12.
Four different contractors will complete the work. Hellas will put in the turf for $988,375. Bob Moss Masonry will build the dugouts and the baseball backstop retaining wall for $21,490. Ray’s Fencing will put in the side fences for $15,925. Containment System will construct the net backstops for $55,601.
Trustees discussed the fields for more than two hours before voting 5-2 for the renovations. Kyle Erwin and Kenneth Shepherd voted against the project.
