Boyd junior Jordyn Todd announced her commitment to play volleyball at Western State Colorado University in a Twitter post last Friday night.

The District 8-3A Hitter of the Year helped the Lady Jackets claim their third straight district title last season. Todd also led Boyd to its first-ever appearance in the state tournament. She notched a school record 580 kills and hit .252 on the year.

“I’m really excited to play at the next level and to be playing for Western,” Todd said. “I went to visit the school over spring break and everything about it was amazing.”

Todd was named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association all-state team after her standout performance in 2017. She served 44 aces and made 462 digs, leading the Lady Jackets to a 38-8 overall record.

Todd said she was also considering the Air Force Academy and Texas Woman’s University, but Western State’s coach contacted her first.

“The coach there saw me at a Triple Crown tournament in Salt Lake City,” Todd said. “She reached out to me, which was a first – I hadn’t really been reached out to by a coach before. She told me what she liked about me. She liked how my arm swing was fast and how I was very dynamic.”

Todd plans to major in pre-med biology at Western State. She will return to Boyd next year for her senior campaign. The Lady Jackets lost in the 3A state semifinal to Goliad last season – something Todd said won’t happen again.

“We’re definitely going to make it to state again, and we’re going to win it this time,” Todd said. “That’s for sure.”
