Northwest senior Analise Lucio announced her commitment to play volleyball at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in a Twitter post Monday night.

Lucio led the Lady Texans to a 24-16 overall record last year. She was named the District 6-5A setter of the year, notching 44 aces while hitting .218.

“It’s pretty crazy,” Lucio said of playing at the next level. “I’ve gotten so much support through Northwest. Everybody has been waiting to see where I’m going. It’s been really satisfying letting everyone know I am playing college ball and for a good program, too.”

Lucio said the recruitment process was grueling, and she is relieved to finally find the right college for her. In addition to UT-Permian Basin, Lucio said she was considering the University of Nevada Las Vegas, Stephen F. Austin State University and the University of Texas at Dallas.

Northwest coach Jennifer Chandler said Lucio holds every school record for a setter. Lucio recorded 3,144 assists in her career with the Lady Texans. Lucio also holds the record for assists per set in a match (14.3), assists per set in a season (10.3) and total assists in a season (1,233).

Lucio laid down 135 kills and was second on the team in blocks last year. She also led the team in total assists, total digs, digs per set, dig percentage and aces.

“I love that kid,” Chandler said. “She’s a kid that came in and worked and made us better. This year she had to carry a young team.

“I feel like adding her, [UT-Permian Basin] has found somebody that will provide stability, accuracy and leadership immediately when she steps into the program.”
