After sweeping the District 9-4A meet last week at Argyle, Decatur posted another strong effort Wednesday at the 4A Region II 9/10 area meet.

Behind several personal bests, the Eagles finished second overall, tallying 127 points. Dallas Carter won the area title with 156 points.

“I’m super pleased,” said Decatur coach Landon Wren. “I knew coming in Dallas Carter would be a tough competitor, and it would be tough to overtake them for first. We had a lot of PRs today. Kids stepped up and performed well.”

The 4×400 team of Cameron Hale, Marco Rodriguez, Christian Isaac and Triston Read claimed silver in the final event of the day, running a season-best 3:28.60. The Eagles finished just over four seconds behind defending 4A state champion Dallas Carter.

“I knew we had an opportunity to go faster than we have all year,” Wren said. “Our kids weren’t going to back down. We were going to give it all we had, and it pushed us to a time that was about two seconds faster than we’ve run all year.”

The 4×400 team advances to the 4A Region II meet April 27-28 at Texas A&M-Commerce.
