After claiming her second consecutive District 8-3A crown in the high jump, Cate has achieved that goal. The senior announced her commitment to Tarleton State University Wednesday night.

“I visited there and talked to the coach and fell in love with the environment and how small it was,” Cate said.

Cate said she had numerous offers to play volleyball, with schools like East Texas Baptist, Texas A&M Commerce and Ranger College expressing interest. She was a vital member of Boyd’s volleyball team that made it to the 3A semifinals last season and was named the top blocker in District 8-3A. She blocked a team-high 98 shots to go along with 153 kills.

On Monday morning, Cate successfully defended her district high jump title, leaping 5-2 to advance to area. She placed seventh at state last year.

“I had a lot of offers to play volleyball, but I loved Tarleton,” Cate said. “I’m super excited because track is one of my favorite sports. It means a lot to me because I’ve worked super hard and conquered my goal.”
