The Bridgeport Bulls continued their hot start to the season over the weekend, sweeping all four of their matches to win the Denison Cup.

Bridgeport routed Faith Oak Cliff 9-0 before pulling out a narrow 4-3 victory over Denison. Bridgeport then shut out Borger 6-0 and Joshua 2-0 to claim the title.

“I couldn’t be happier with the team’s performance this past weekend,” said Bulls coach CJ Cartwright. “We’ve been able to have some success early, but I truly feel we are just starting to hit our stride.”

The Bulls won their four matches in the tournament by a combined score of 21-3. Juan Amador and Jesus Aguilar each had five goals. Eric Aguilar had four goals – one in every match.

Cartwright said Bridgeport has focused on ball possession this season, something he believes has contributed to the Bulls’ early success.

Seven different players found the back of the net for Bridgeport in the tournament.

“Many players on the team got the chance to step up that had not previously had the chance to, and I was excited to watch their development,” Cartwight said.

The Bulls are now 6-1 on the season, with their next match coming Friday at Stephenville.
