When the results of the District 8-4A varsity girls 3,200 run were announced Tuesday afternoon, the cheers from the Bridgeport camp could be heard from around Joe Wheeler Park.

Although the Sissies only had one top 10 finisher, Bridgeport fended off Krum for third place, advancing to the 4A Region I championships in Lubbock Oct. 22.

“I feel like we had some kiddos lay down a really great race today for the team,” said Bridgeport coach Dallas Taylor. “With some obstacles and being young, having some holes to fill, our girls just came together and ran hard. On a day where there the conditions weren’t perfect, they came out and did a good job.”

Bridgeport tallied 81 points, while Krum finished with 87. Marisol Fraga took eighth for the Sissies, clocking a 12:54.9.

Taylor said she was proud of the way Fraga ran and how she has overcome some adversity this season.

“Marisol has struggled this year trying to get back, but her efforts and guts today really speak volumes for that kid as a runner,” Taylor said. “We have a week and a half to try and reach some goals she has.”
