Northwest wins first district title, routs North Side

The Northwest Texans put an exclamation mark to their first district title Friday night.

Austin Ahmad threw for three scores and DeMareus Hosey ran for three as the Texans blasted Fort Worth North Side 62-6 at Farrington Field.

The Texans (8-2) finished 4-5A Division II a perfect 6-0.

Northwest put the game away early, scoring 35 points in the opening frame. DaVeantae Stegall caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Ahmad 42 seconds into the game. Ahmad added scoring throws of 29 yards to Zavion Taylor and 45 yards to Quentin Lee before the first quarter ended.

Ahmad finished 8-for-11 through the air for 208 yards.

Hosey found the end zone for the third time midway through the second quarter on a 21-yard run. He also scored on runs of 29 and 1 yards. Hosey rushed for 179 yards.

The Northwest defense limited North Side to just 62 yards and two first downs. North Side’s lone score came on a 94-yard kickoff return by Da’Wain Lofton.
