The Northwest Texans will try to keep their magical playoff run alive when they meet Lubbock Cooper Friday in the 5A Division II Region I regional in Abilene.

The two schools will square off at 4 p.m. at Abilene Christian University.

Northwest has never played in the third round.

The Texans enter the game 10-2 overall, while Cooper sports an unblemished 12-0 mark. The Pirates have won their two playoff games by a combined 97-0 and have recorded four shutouts this season.

The Texans have not lost since Sept. 13 against Grapevine, rattling off nine straight wins. Northwest won its first district title this season and picked up its first area championship last week against El Paso Burges.

Junior Cooper McDonald recorded his second pick-six of the year in the win.

Offensively, the Texans are led by senior all-state running back DeMareus Hosey, who has rushed for 1,773 yards and 26 scores. He gashed Wichita Falls in the bi-district round, running for 351 yards and five touchdowns on 27 carries.

Northwest is averaging 437.6 yards and 48.3 points. Cooper surrenders just 13.3 points per game.
