Bridgeport is looking to channel strong chemistry into a playoff team heading into the 2018 season.

Buoyed by a solid lineup that is relatively set in stone after the departures from last year’s team, recently promoted Sissies coach Allison Jones said there’s a lot to look forward to with her current squad.

“They have formed a bond this summer and you can see it trickling down to the younger players,” Jones said. “We have some great leaders that will carry us through.”

A tough district schedule left Bridgeport with a 2-8 district record in 2017.

This year, the Sissies start with a clean slate.

Jones was previously an assistant and said the transition to the top spot has been aided by the relationship and bonds she’s already forged with many of the players on the team.

“They know me and I know them,” she said. “They know my style.”

Bridgeport senior Morgen Davidson said there’s plenty of reasons to be confident heading into the season.

“We’re better this year,” Davidson said. “We’re a lot closer as a team. We spend a lot of time together, and we all have the same goal. We want to make the playoffs and work our hardest to make sure we get there.”

Davidson said one of the main things that’s going to change is their mindset starting games.

“It seems like we didn’t get going until midway through the first set,” she said. “We’re going to make it a point to start fast this year.”

Following the first practice of the fall camp Wednesday, Jones said the team is buying in.

“We’re focusing on the big picture, that’s my main message that there’s a reason we’re working and grinding to focus on the big picture,” Jones said. “We’re building this program back.

“There’s a good energy, the girls seem to be excited and are working hard.”
