The Alvord Bulldogs have a new leader this year – and he is used to winning.

Most recently the athletic director and head basketball coach at Slidell, Todd McCormick won a total of 351 games in 17 seasons as a coach. He was at Slidell from 2011-2017 and also spent time at Paradise.

He will now be tasked with leading the Alvord boys cross country program that had a state qualifier last year and finished third in District 11-2A.

“I am looking forward to being a part of this group with the anticipation of building off last year’s success,” McCormick said.

Junior Colton Parker advanced to the state meet last season, finishing 117th. He took 15th at the 2A Region II meet with a 18:43 on the 5K course at Lynn Creek Park.

The Bulldogs finished third at the District 11-2A meet with 64 points. Along with Parker, Alvord returns Will Martin and Cody Price from last year’s regional qualifying team.

On the girls side, the Lady Bulldogs narrowly missed out on a regional bid in 2017, finishing fourth at the 11-2A race. Paycee Edgett and Twani Hamilton qualified for regionals as individuals.

Edgett graduated in May.
