Eagles knock off defending champs

The Decatur Eagles got back in the win column Saturday with a 58-26 rout of defending 3A champion Bowie.

Decatur improved to 13-2. The Eagles will host Stephenville Tuesday night.

In the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches latest Class 4A poll, the Eagles checked in at No. 14.

SLIDELL 64, ERA 46

Brock Harwell led Slidell with 18 points off the bench as the Greyhounds bounced back to beat Era 64-46 Friday night.

Eleven of Harwell’s 18 came in the second half, as Slidell outscored the Hornets 36-25 down the stretch. The Greyhounds shot 76 percent at the charity stripe.

“It was a good defensive game for us,” said Slidell coach Casey Pierce. “I was satisfied with our detail to the game plan and effort. We rebounded well considering we were outsized at several positions. We were 19-for-25 at the free-throw line and that was the real difference tonight.”

Slayton Pruett added 11 for Slidell. The Greyhounds moved to 10-6.

Slidell hosted Muenster Tuesday in its final non-district game.

PARADISE 61, BELLEVUE 46

Bonner Brackeen and Mitchell Sellers dropped 16 points each and Paradise ran away from Bellevue 61-46 Friday.

The Panthers took a double-digit lead, 33-22, into halftime. Eight different players scored in the win for Paradise.

The Panthers improved to 7-6 overall. Paradise traveled to Millsap Tuesday to open District 7-3A play.

BRIDGEPORT 55, PILOT POINT 51

The Bridgeport Bulls picked up their third straight win Friday, downing Pilot Point 55-51.

Bridgeport is 7-8. The Bulls traveled to Sanger Tuesday.

CHICO 61, PERRIN-WHITT 41

Chico improved to 7-3 with a 61-41 win over Perrin-Whitt Friday.

The Dragons traveled to Diamond Hill-Jarvis Tuesday.

VALLEY VIEW 49, BOYD 37

Connor Richardson’s team-high 13 points were not enough for Boyd Friday night, as the Yellowjackets fell to Valley View 49-37.

The Eagles outscored Boyd 33-25 in the second half. The Yellowjackets were held to just 14 first-half points.

Braedon Hopkins poured in 10 for Boyd. Reuben Rodebaugh added six.

The Yellowjackets fell to 6-7 overall. Boyd opened District 7-3A play at home Tuesday against Brock.

SAINT JO 64, ALVORD 61

Saint Jo erased a six-point halftime deficit Friday, edging Alvord 64-61.

The Panthers outscored the Bulldogs 34-25 in the second half. Jayton Malone led Alvord in scoring with 16 points. He knocked down four 3-pointers.

Eli Tefertiller added 13 and Hunter Richey posted 11.

The Bulldogs fell to 10-2 overall. Alvord traveled to Graford Tuesday.
