Bulldogs make stop to secure 30-28 win

The Alvord Bulldogs’ defense stopped Pantego Christian’s try for two to tie the game and made the lead hold up over the final 11 minutes Thursday in a 30-28 victory at Bulldog Stadium.

Along with holding onto the lead, the Alvord defense scored the Bulldogs’ first points of the night on a safety in the first quarter.
Alvord limited Pantego Christian to 223 yards.
After falling behind 7-0 a little more than two minutes into the game, the Bulldogs stormed back with three touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 22-14 halftime lead.
Corbyn Cornell ran for a score and threw a 59-yard touchdown pass to Karson Parker during the second-quarter outburst.
Cornell added an 11-yard scoring run with 2:49 left in the third. Tanner Richey ran in the try to put Alvord up 30-22.
Cornell finished with 79 yards on 19 carries. He threw for 88 yards, completing seven of his eight attempts.
Clayton Machal scored the Bulldogs’ other touchdown on a 1-yard plunge.
Alvord evened its record at 2-2.
