Bedford was named to the first team after leading Class 4A in receiving this year. Fuller received honorable mention and led Class 4A in passing, throwing for 4,652 yards and 45 touchdowns. Bedford hauled in 114 passes for 1,668 yards and 15 scores.

The duo led the Eagles to a berth in the state semifinal for just the third time.

“It’s a dream come true,” Bedford said. “I couldn’t have done this without my coaches, offensive line, quarterback and other receivers doing their jobs. This is an awesome way to end my high school football career.”

Decatur’s high-octane offense averaged 33.9 points this year. Fuller threw for 310.1 yards per game and completed 65.3 percent of his passes.

Of Fuller’s 345 completions, 33 percent went to Bedford.

“Being selected for an all-state team means so much to me, but more importantly, this is for my teammates,” Fuller said. “Without them, I could have never achieved this. We’ve worked so hard this year, and it is such an honor to represent Decatur football this way.”

The Eagles ended the year 8-7 and joined the 1975 and 1988 teams as the only Decatur squads to play in the state semifinal.

“This team had a special season,” Fuller said. “I plan on an even better season next year.”
