Only five Northwest players scored in the victory.

The Texans limited Chisholm Trail to just five points in the third quarter, taking a 44-37 lead into the final frame. But the Rangers made a late push, scoring 23 points in the fourth quarter to get back in the game.

Mason Hix hit several clutch free throws down the stretch, finishing with 14 points. Sammie Freeman added 13, while Julien Smith had 12.

“It was against a team that was tied with us for first place,” said Northwest coach Mike Hatch. “It puts us a leg up on them. Obviously it was a very important [win].”

With the victory, Northwest moves to 14-5 on the year and 2-0 in District 6-5A play.
