Basketball: Sissies top Krum

Emily Vidal scored a game-high 20 points and the Bridgeport Sissies survived a scare from Krum, edging the Lady Bobcats 48-40.

Neither team eclipsed 20 points in the first half, as both sides struggled to get going offensively. Bridgeport relied heavily on its defense to seal the win, holding Krum to just 14 first-half points.

Jolene Torres finished second in scoring for the Sissies with eight points. Ashley Ingram threw in seven.

The win moved Bridgeport to 18-5 on the season and 3-2 in District 9-4A play. The Sissies hosted Argyle Tuesday to start the second half of league play.


The Boyd Lady Jackets were unable to overcome a rough first quarter against Nocona, as the Lady Indians held on for a key 64-51 district victory. Nocona led Boyd 25-6 after one quarter, jumping on the Lady Jackets right from the tipoff.

“They came out hot and we were our own worst enemy in the first quarter,” said Boyd coach Erica Warner. “But I was proud of how we bounced back. We cut it to five and just ran out of time.”

Although they weren’t able to come all the way back, the Lady Jackets cut Nocona’s lead to single digits in the fourth quarter. Boyd outscored the Lady Indians 34-26 in the second and third quarter but could not totally erase the deficit.

The Lady Jackets dropped to 6-18 on the season and 2-7 in District 8-3A. Boyd traveled to Paradise Tuesday.


Cydney Bailey’s team-high 14 points were not enough for Alvord, as the Lady Bulldogs fell to Era 65-51. Bailey was the only Alvord player to end in double figures.

A slow first half eventually doomed the Lady Bulldogs, as the Lady Hornets quickly mounted a 39-16 halftime lead. Despite this, Alvord tried to claw back in the second half, outscoring Era 35-26 in the final two quarters.

The Lady Bulldogs fell to 10-13 on the season and 2-3 in District 11-2A play. Alvord traveled to Perrin Tuesday.


The Chico Lady Dragons held on a for a heart-stopping 44-43 over Perrin Friday.

Laynee North led the way with a game-high 22, scoring half of Chico’s points.

The Lady Dragons held a 31-22 lead going into the fourth quarter but were unable to hold it, as Perrin came charging back. The Lady Pirates outscored Chico 21-13 in the final frame, but came up just short of completing the comeback.

With the win, the Lady Dragons improved to 1-4 on the year in District 11-2A play. Chico traveled to Muenster Tuesday.


Bailey Meyer scored a team-high 18 points and the Slidell Lady Hounds downed rival Forestburg 45-37.

The two teams were tied at half time, but Slidell buckled down defensively in the second half, limiting Forestburg to just 14 points in the final two quarters. Cate Zuniga was the Lady Hounds’ second leading scorer with 10 points.

Slidell moved to 18-6 on the season and 7-0 in District 21-A play. The Lady Hounds hosted Midway Tuesday.
