Basketball: Sanger holds off Decatur

The Decatur Lady Eagles only trailed the Sanger Lady Indians by two at halftime. Up against the lone undefeated team in District 9-4A, Decatur had an upset on its mind when the third quarter began.

But Sanger had other ideas. The Lady Indians thwarted off the Lady Eagles’ upset bid 44-35.

The loss dropped Decatur to 1-6 in district and all but extinguished the Lady Eagles’ playoff hopes.

Decatur played host to Argyle Tuesday and takes on Bridgeport Friday – the current second- and third-place teams in the district.

Logan Cullop finished with a team-high seven points for the Lady Eagles.


Kaycee Martin scored a game-high 20 points and the Paradise Lady Panthers routed City View 72-30.

Paradise had four players finish in double figures, dominating from start to finish.

Kendall Candioto ended with 12 points. Maddie Mitschke and Hannah Beth Pearson each had 11.

The Lady Panthers used a 28-point second quarter to build a 46-10 halftime advantage.

Paradise improved to 17-10 on the season and 7-4 in District 8-3A. The Lady Panthers took on Henrietta Tuesday.


Henrietta sank a shot with 3.8 seconds left to break the Boyd Lady Jackets’ hearts and sneak away with a 38-36 victory.

Boyd held a 9-2 lead after the first quarter but could not hold it, surrendering 17 points in the fourth quarter.

“We let them back in the game by sending them to the free-throw line,” said Boyd coach Erica Warner.

The loss dropped the Lady Jackets to 6-20 on the season and 2-9 in District 8-3A. After playing City View Tuesday, Boyd has only two games left in its season.


The Alvord Lady Bulldogs edged Poolville 45-43 behind a game-high 18 points from Miranda Smith. She knocked down four 3-pointers.

Alvord erased a six-point halftime deficit, holding the Lady Monarchs to four points in the third quarter. The Lady Bulldogs then had to fend off a fourth quarter Poolville rally to seal the victory.

Alvord moved to 12-13 on the season and 5-2 in District 11-2A. The Lady Bulldogs battled Chico Tuesday.

ERA 54, CHICO 13

The Era Hornets kept their unblemished District 11-2A record intact with a 54-13 throttling on Chico.

The Lady Dragons were held to just four points in the first half in the loss.

Era led 42-9 entering the fourth quarter. The Lady Dragons were led in scoring by Laynee North with five points.

The loss dropped Chico to 1-6 in district. The Lady Dragons entered Tuesday’s game with Alvord one game behind Poolville for the final playoff spot in District 11-2A with two games remaining.


Bailey Meyer scored a game-high 22 points and the Slidell Lady Hounds narrowly survived a ferocious second-half rally by Bellevue in a 45-40 victory.

The Lady Eagles outscored Slidell 28-14 in the third and fourth quarter.

The Lady Hounds held a 31-12 halftime lead, dominating Bellevue in the first half.

Slidell stayed unbeaten in 21-A, moving to 10-0 and 21-6 overall. The Lady Hounds were off on Tuesday.
