Basketball: Paradise rallies to beat Tigers

The Paradise Panthers overcame a three-point first quarter and nine-point halftime deficit last Friday to beat the Jacksboro Tigers 48-44 on the road. Paradise’s Martin Crawford had a game-high 20 points in the victory.

The Panthers buckled down defensively in the second half, outscoring Jacksboro 36-21. Paradise scored 20 points in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

With the win, the Panthers improve to 2-3 in District 8-3A play. Paradise traveled to Nocona on Tuesday.


The Boyd Yellowjackets were held scoreless in the second quarter Friday night, falling to Holliday 40-22.

Boyd managed just five first-half points in the loss.

The Yellowjackets were led in scoring by Connor Richardson, who poured in 12 points – all of which came on 3-pointers. No other Boyd player scored more than two points.

With the loss, the Yellowjackets have dropped three straight, falling to 13-7 on the year and 1-3 in District 8-3A play. Boyd hosted Bowie on Tuesday.


The Alvord Bulldogs won their District 11-2A opener with a thrilling 39-38 victory over rival Chico.

Alvord overcame a slow start to get the win, scoring just two points in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Tanner Baker, who finished with a game-high 13 points. He was the only Alvord player to end in double figures.

Chico took a slim 17-13 lead into halftime but was unable to hold it, as the Bulldogs clawed their way back into the game in the second half.

Alvord improved to 15-7 and 1-0 in district play with the win. The Bulldogs will travel to Era on Friday.
