For the second straight year, the Paradise Lady Panthers will square off with Brock in the bi-district round of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) playoffs.

Paradise and Brock will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Springtown.

The Lady Panthers finished the regular season with an 18-12 overall record and 8-6 mark in District 8-3A.

Brock went 27-6 overall and ended the regular season undefeated in District 7-3A at 12-0.

The Lady Eagles ended Paradise’s season last year, downing the Lady Panthers 48-38.

“Brock has been a thorn in our side for many, many years,” said Paradise coach Chad Woodard. “Mentally, I think we’re ready. Last year, the statement I made was I want to play them again. I [wanted] another chance this year. God willing, here it is.”

The Lady Eagles averaged 52.8 points per game this season, and are led on offense by senior guard Rylee Lavender. Defensively, Brock held opponents to 40.4 points per game on the year.

Paradise is led on offense by junior guard Maddie Mitschke. The Lady Panthers’ point guard is averaging a double-double this year, tallying 12.9 points, 10.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. Mitschke is Paradise’s leading scorer and rebounder.

“I know [Brock] has been very successful, and they are very good. But we’ve always just been Paradise,” Mitschke said. “I want us to finally come out of that and go out and accomplish these great things. Because I know that we can.”

Paradise ended the season on a two-game losing skid, while the Lady Eagles are on a 17-game winning streak. Brock has not lost a game since Dec. 7.

“This is just another challenge we have to rise to,” Woodard said.
