Avery Anderson scored 35 points and Northwest knocked Sherman out of the playoffs for the second straight year in the 5A Region I bi-district round.

The Texans took a 40-32 lead into halftime and entered the fourth quarter only up five. Sherman’s Kemonte Dowdy led all scorers with 36 as he tried to lead a Bearcat rally.

Mason Hix, Julien Smith and Sammie Freeman all ended in double figures for Northwest. Hix had 13. Smith finished with 11 and Freeman 10.

Northwest played Trimble Tech in the area round Friday at Keller Fossil Ridge.

LINDSAY 73, ALVORD 56

The Alvord Bulldogs could not overcome a slow start Tuesday in the 2A Region II bi-district round against Lindsay in Bowie.

Playing the Knights in the playoffs for the second straight year, Alvord was outscored 47-32 in the first half and quickly fell behind by double-digits. Unable to dig themselves out of an early hole, the Bulldogs fell 73-56.

Tanner Petree led Alvord in scoring with 10 points. He was the only Bulldog to finish in double figures. Jayton Malone had eight, including a three-quarter court, buzzer-beating 3 to end the third quarter.

Three Lindsay players finished in double digits.

Alvord tried to mount a run in the third quarter to get back in the game, but the Knights were too much. Alvord finished the season at 20-12.

SAM RAYBURN 58, CHICO 40

Four Sam Rayburn players ended in double figures as the Rebels downed Chico 58-40 in the 2A Region II bi-district round of the playoffs.

The Dragons stumbled out of the gates and trailed 32-13 at halftime. Kolton Forbus scored a game-high 17 and was the lone Dragon in double digits. Jerod Blanks, the team’s leading scorer on the season, finished with seven.

Coleman McGraw led Sam Rayburn in scoring with 14. The Dragons scored 20 points in the fourth quarter to try and save their season but it was not enough to overcome their early deficit.
