Basketball: Lady Eagles end year with win

The Decatur Lady Eagles snapped a four-game losing skid with a 47-40 victory over Gainesville to end the year on a high note.

Avery Luig led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 11 points. Decatur took a slim 22-20 lead into halftime and then used a big fourth quarter to pull away and earn the win. The Lady Eagles scored 16 points in the fourth quarter.

Decatur ended the season 2-8 in District 9-4A play.


Krum knocked off Bridgeport 47-38 in overtime Tuesday to tie the Sissies for third in District 9-4A.

The two teams finished 6-4 in district play and met in a tiebreaker for the third seed Friday in Decatur.

Bridgeport shut Krum’s offense down in the first half, holding the Lady Bobcats to 11 points through two quarters. But the Sissies were outscored 34-21 in the final two quarters plus overtime.

Emily Vidal led Bridgeport in scoring with a game-high 17 points, but suffered a knee injury.

The Sissies have clinched a playoff berth, but who and when they play will not be determined until after Friday’s tiebreaker.


Paytin Bullard led all scorers with 17 points and the Boyd Lady Jackets won their regular season finale 51-37 over Holliday.

Three different Boyd players ended the game in double figures. Jules Tullos had 14. Sydney Stanley chipped in 13.

“The team came together and played a great game,” said Boyd coach Erica Warner. “I’m proud of my girls.”

The Lady Jackets ended the season 4-10 in District 8-3A play.


Taylor Maag scored a team-high 11 points, but it was not enough for Alvord, as the Lady Bulldogs fell to Era 62-49 in the regular season finale.

Paycee Edgett led Alvord with 10 points.

The Lady Bulldogs ended the season 6-4 in District 9-4A. Alvord will play Valley View in the bi-district round of the playoffs at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Denton Ryan.


The Slidell Lady Hounds ended the season undefeated in District 21-A play, routing Gold-Burg 48-24.

Cate Zuniga finished with a game-high 18 points, knocking down two 3-pointers. Slidell outscored the Lady Bears 27-12 in the first half and did not let up in the final two quarters.

The Lady Hounds finished 12-0 in district play and enter the playoffs at 23-6. Slidell gets a first-round playoff bye and will face the winner of Fannindel and Yantis in the area round.
