Basketball: Gainesville dispatches Bridgeport

The Gainesville Leopards topped Bridgeport 41-39 behind a game-high 19 points from Josh Kemp.

The loss kept the Bulls in last place and winless in District 9-4A.

Drew Carstens led Bridgeport in scoring with 11 points and was only the Bull in double figures. Andrew Horton and Zane Morrow scored nine apiece.

Bridgeport is two games behind Gainesville for fourth and final playoff spot with five games remaining. The Bulls battled Sanger Tuesday, who is one game ahead of Bridgeport in the standings. The Indians beat the Bulls earlier in the season.


The Boyd Yellowjackets erased a seven-point fourth quarter deficit and picked up a critical 43-36 win over District 8-3A foe Henrietta in overtime Friday.

Boyd outscored the Bearcats 16-9 in the final frame to force the extra period.

Connor Richardson finished with a game-high 19 points, knocking down six 3-pointers. Richardson hit several clutch shots in the fourth to bring the Yellowjackets all the way back. Blake Rodgers finished second in scoring with 11.

The win moved Boyd to 3-6 in District 8-3A. The Yellowjackets are one game back of City View, who is 4-5. Boyd played host to City View Tuesday, and with a win, would be tied for the fourth and final playoff spot in 8-3A.


No Alvord player finished with more than six points as the Poolville Monarchs stifled the Bulldogs for a 49-26 victory.

Poolville used a balanced scoring attack to get the win as seven different Monarchs made entries on the scoresheet.

The Bulldogs were led in scoring by freshman Hunter Richey with six points.

Alvord fell to 17-9 overall and 3-2 in District 11-2A. The Bulldogs took on Chico Tuesday.

CHICO 49, ERA 33

Jerod Blanks scored a game-high 22 points and the Chico Dragons handled Era 49-33. Blanks drained three 3-pointers in the victory.

Chico took a 22-14 lead into the locker room at halftime and continued adding to it in the second half. The Dragons outscored the Hornets 27-20 in the final two quarters to pull away.

With the win, Chico improved to 2-3 in District 11-2A and is in sole possession of the fourth and final playoff spot. The Dragons traveled to Alvord Tuesday.


The Slidell Greyhounds pushed their winning streak to 10 games with a 70-54 victory over Bellevue. Layton Shelton led Slidell in scoring with 19.

“I’m glad we got the win but I wasn’t real pleased with our execution and defensive effort tonight,” said Slidell coach Casey Pierce. “We were lucky to get out of there 8-0 in district.”

The Greyhounds had four different players finish in double figures and held a 33-20 lead at halftime. Hunter Horner finished with 18 points. Slayton Pruett had 14.

Slidell went to 22-5 overall and 8-0 in District 21-A. The Greyhounds were off on Tuesday.
