Basketball: Bowie spoils Boyd’s upset bid

The Boyd Lady Jackets gave the Bowie Lady Jackrabbits their first scare in District 8-3A play Tuesday night.

Leading at the half and into the third quarter, Boyd was on the verge of upsetting Bowie, who is still undefeated in district play.

Turnovers and fouls allowed the Lady Jackrabbits to get back in the game and eventually come away with a 50-37 victory.

“We came out and did the little things and ran our offense well, said Boyd coach Erica Warner. “My girls played hard and I was very proud of them.”

The Lady Jackets were led in scoring by Paytin Bullard, who ended the night with 17 points. Bullard also knocked down three 3-pointers.

The loss dropped Boyd to 6-17 on the season and 2-6 in district play. The Lady Jackets traveled to Nocona Friday.

The Slidell Lady Greyhounds continued their winning ways Tuesday, running by Saint Jo 52-23.

Bailey Meyer led Slidell in scoring with 17 points. Cate Zuniga added 15 points of her own.

Slidell held a 32-8 lead at halftime ad never relinquished it, cruising to the victory.

With the win, the Lady Greyhounds improved to 17-6 on the year and 6-0 in District 21-A. Slidell traveled to Forestburg Friday.


The Paradise Lady Panthers were unable to hold a 13-point halftime lead as the Nocona Lady Indians stormed back for a 53-44 win. Nocona outscored Paradise 39-17 in the second half and knocked down four fourth quarter 3-pointers to seal the victory.

The loss spoiled a big night from guard Maddie Mitschke, who finished four assists shy of a triple-double. Mitschke dropped 20 points, while hauling in 15 rebounds and dishing out six assists. Kaycee Martin also ended in double figures with 13 points.

Paradise fell to 15-8 on the season and 5-3 in District 8-3A. The Lady Panthers played host to Bowie Friday, who is unbeaten and in first place in District 8-3A.


Miranda Smith’s 18 points were not enough for Alvord, as the Lady Bulldogs fell to Muenster 46-40.

Kate Schedcik added nine points for Alvord, while Paycee Edgett threw in eight. Natalie Danglemyer led the Lady Hornets in scoring with 18.

The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Era Friday.
