Baseball: Read’s big day fuels Decatur

Triston Read drove in seven runs as Decatur thumped Gainesville 13-1 in five innings. Read went 2-for-3 at the plate and hit a grand slam in the third inning.

Chase Oberle got the nod for the Eagles on the mound. He allowed one run on two hits in four innings, striking out five.

Decatur tallied 12 hits. Read, Eddie Fernandez, Bodi Rascon and Dayne Chapman all had multi-hit games.

The Eagles improved to 14-10 overall and 3-3 in District 9-4A. Decatur will travel to Krum Tuesday.


Krum used a six-run second inning to run away from Bridgeport 9-1.

Corbin Bailey suffered the loss, giving up eight runs on six hits in four innings. He struck out four and walked four.

Daniel Delgadillo had the Bulls’ only hit of the game.

Bridgeport fell to 8-14 overall and 2-4 in District 9-4A. The Bulls will host No. 1 Argyle Tuesday.


Paradise stayed in the thick of the District 8-3A playoff race with a 4-3 walk-off victory over rival Boyd.

The Panthers trailed 3-2 entering the bottom of the seventh, but got two runs in the frame to come away with the win. Colby Cox knocked in the deciding run for Paradise on a double.

Parker Cook went the distance for the Panthers on the hill, scattering three runs on two hits over seven innings. He struck out five.

Creighton Witt got the start for the Yellowjackets and surrendered two runs on four hits over five innings. He struck out eight.

Paradise improved to 5-5 in district. Boyd dropped to 7-3 in league play and has lost two straight.

The Panthers will travel to City View Tuesday. The Yellowjackets will travel to Nocona.


Chico snapped a three-game losing skid with a 9-6 victory over rival Alvord.

Jerod Blanks went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Dragons with a walk. He also started the game for Chico, scattering four runs on six hits. He struck out nine.

Clayton Machal took the loss for the Bulldogs. He surrendered nine runs on 12 hits over five and two-thirds innings.

The Dragons scored a run in every inning except the fifth. All but one Chico player tallied a hit.

Alvord dropped to 4-7 in District 11-2A. The Dragons improved to 6-4 in league play.

The Bulldogs will host Era Tuesday. Chico will play Collinsville.
