Baseball: Hicks named Offensive MVP

Decatur junior Wilson Hicks was named District 9-4A Offensive MVP, leading the Eagles to an appearance in the 4A Region II quarterfinals.

Hicks hit .380 with an on-base percentage of .455. He was also Decatur’s ace on the mound, pitching 51 innings with a 0.96 ERA. He surrendered only seven earned runs all season.

Other first-team selections for the Eagles included pitcher Bodi Rascon, outfielder Beau Bedford and designated hitter Triston Read.

Rascon boasted a 1.70 ERA, giving up seven earned runs in 39 innings. Bedford batted .312, drove in 14 and had an on-base percentage of .423.

Read – Decatur’s clean-up hitter – slugged 14 doubles, tallied 32 RBIs and struck out only 10 times all season. He had an average of .374.

Bridgeport’s first-team selections included catcher Daniel Delgadillo and outfielder Jadon Maddux.

Delgadillo hit .333 on the year, driving in 20 runs. He committed just one error behind the plate and threw out 20 runners.

Maddox swiped 20 bases, batted .328 and had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
