Baseball: Decatur throttles Pinkston – Eagles advance to area round

Bodi Rascon led the charge at the plate as Decatur ran away from Dallas Pinkston 17-6 in six innings in Game 1 of the 4A Region II bi-district round Friday at Pinkston.

Rascon went 2-for-2 and drove in two runs. The Eagles tallied 11 hits in the win.

Junior Wilson Hicks got the start for Decatur on the mound. He gave up one hit in two innings, striking out five.

The Eagles continued to pour on the offense in the second game, as the Eagles routed Pinkston 19-2 in five innings to sweep the series 2-0.

Decatur scored 13 runs in the second inning. Hicks, Rascon, Triston Read, Beau Bedford, Jaxsyn Fletcher and Eddie Fernandez all collected RBIs in the frame.

Rascon struck out five in two innings of work. The Eagles allowed just one hit in the Game 2.

Decatur will play Princeton in the 4A Region II area round this week at Hebron. Game 1 is set for 7 p.m. Friday. Game 2 is slated for noon Saturday. Game 3, if necessary, would immediately follow.
