On behalf of our whole family, I would like to take this opportunity to thank this community for the care, love and support shown to us during the illness and subsequent hospitalizations of my husband. We have wonderful doctors here in Wise County and are grateful for their skill, compassion and kindness.

I thank our local hospital, especially the day- and night-shift doctors, nurses, techs and aides who worked in ER, ICU/CCU, as well as those on the fourth and fifth floors, for taking such good care of my husband during the dozen or so times he was admitted. I came to know a lot of you over the past two years, and I give thanks for your kind support during that time. The physical, speech and respiratory therapists were instrumental in his treatment. Y’all became like family.

Our heartfelt thanks to the EMTs who answered calls to our house several times and took care of my husband as they transported him to the hospital.

Home health assisted him for more than a year with the two- to three-days-a-week routine. The nurses, therapists and aides were nothing but kind and caring.

When it was time for my husband to be put on hospice at home, they tenderly handled all the arrangements, getting the medical equipment needed, and supplying us with the most supportive nurses, aides and chaplain.

I would like to mention that during the last several days of his illness, my daughters and I went to grab a bite to eat at a local restaurant in Decatur. We were tearful when our server came to our table. I told her that my husband was ill, and she was so considerate of our feelings and asked if there was anything she could do. Without our knowledge, she talked with her manager, and they comped our meals. They also asked if they could provide food to take back to the hospital.

Please know that I cannot name everyone who was instrumental in my husband’s care. You know who you are, though. We came to love all of you, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have done. All of you made it seem like my husband was the only patient you had, and for that, I will be eternally grateful.
