#1 ALVORD WATERMELON FESTIVAL

The Alvord Watermelon Festival, a longtime local favorite, is Friday and Saturday at Elm Creek Park. The festivities kick off with a live broadcast on The Ranch 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. There’s also 42, cornhole and washer tournaments, plus a barbecue cookoff and steak challenge Friday night. On Saturday, veterans will serve breakfast 6 to 10 a.m. for donations, and there’s a watermelon pageant at 10 a.m. The rest of the day will include an antique car show, bingo, live music, the Mike Watts Memorial Fish Fry and of course, more cornhole and washers. There will be bounce houses in the kids zone, and vendors set up all day.

United Way Wise County

#2 UNITED WAY OF WISE COUNTY KICKOFF

The United Way of Wise County will start its annual fall fundraising drive Thursday with the kickoff at the Decatur Conference Center. The annual celebration will start at 10:30 a.m. with guests getting a chance to visit booths and learn about the 30 partner agencies in the county the United Way helps to support. Lunch will be served, and Wise County Judge J.D. Clark will give the keynote speech. The United Way’s goal this year is to raise $450,000.

#3 MOVIE UNDER THE STARS

Hey Sugar Candy Store is having Movie Under the Stars Saturday on the Decatur Square.

The film starts at 7:15 p.m. Bring a chair and your appetite. Chick-fil-A will be selling chicken sandwiches.
