Breast Cancer

It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and everything’s pink, including downtown Decatur. Paint the Town Pink, honoring breast cancer survivors and remembering those lost, is Friday. The event runs 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. during which a pink stripe will be painted down the middle of Main Street, and a barbecue lunch will be served. You also can drop a few dollars on the raffles and bake sale, all of which benefit Mary’s Gift and Wise Health System Woman’s Health Services.

The Greenwood Fall Festival, a local favorite, is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The parade begins at 10 a.m., and there will be craft booths to peruse, a silent auction and train rides for the kiddos. The event is in the picturesque burg of, you guessed it, Greenwood, just 10 miles north of Decatur on Farm Road 1204, off Farm Road 51. It’s sponsored by Greenwood Extension Education Club and proceeds are donated to several local charities.

A big time is planned in Newark this weekend. The 31st annual Cruisin’ Days is Thursday through Saturday, benefiting the volunteer fire department. The carnival opens 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The event will feature live music, bingo and vendors. There’s a car show at 2 p.m. Saturday, followed by a barbecue dinner 5:30 to 7 p.m. You can then shimmy off all that ‘cue at the dance 8 to 11. Need more info? Call Dawn Killough, 817-692-4959
