Weekend Volleyball

#1 STATE VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

Wise County has two, that’s right, two volleyball teams headed to the state tournament this week at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland.

The Boyd Lady Yellowjackets and Decatur Lady Eagles won their respective regional titles to storm the state stage. Boyd (43-5) is making its second consecutive trip to state and will play Vanderbilt Industrial (39-3) in the 3A semifinal at 11 a.m. Thursday.

Decatur (36-11) won state titles in 2013 and 2014 but didn’t find their way back to Garland until this year. They will play Melissa (38-11) at 11 a.m. Friday.

State title matches will be played Saturday with 3A at 11 a.m., followed by 4A at 1 p.m.

Weekend Football

#2 FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS

Welcome to the playoffs, boys. Five Wise County high schools will play for bi-district titles on the gridiron this week.

Oddly enough, the majority of the action is Thursday: Boyd vs. Eastland, 7:30 p.m. at Graham; Alvord vs. Winters, 7 p.m. at Comanche; and Chico vs. Hawley, 7:30 p.m. at Jacksboro. Friday, Northwest and Decatur join the fray. Northwest gets a home game against Wichita Falls at 7. Decatur heads out of state to play Dumas at 7 p.m. at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Okla.

Weekend Trinity

#3 TRINITY STREET 1-YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Trinity Street Coffee Bar turns 1 next week, and you’re all invited to celebrate. The anniversary shindig is Friday with an all-day happy hour. Jarod Grice will play live music that night from 8 to 10, and a taco food truck will be on site to meet all your noshing needs.
