Butterfield Stage Days

#3. BUTTERFIELD STAGE DAYS

Butterfield Stage Days, the largest annual festival in Bridgeport, is Thursday through Saturday. The event celebrates the toll bridge over the Trinity River built for the Butterfield Stage in 1860.

A post office was later established near the bridge and, boom, Bridgeport was born. That historic start is celebrated today with a carnival, pancake eating contest, rib cookoff, 5K run/walk and of course, free stagecoach rides. There is also a western parade and PRCA rodeo, which is regularly named one of the best small rodeos in the country. The parade is at 5:30 p.m. Friday in downtown Bridgeport.
