HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL RETURNS
After months of anticipation and several weeks of sweating in the hot Texas sun, football season is back. Wise County football teams will take the field for the regular season opener and hopefully their first steps to playoff berths.
The big matchup of opening week will be the Decatur Eagles testing their might against 4A Division I state runnerup Kennedale. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Kennedale.
Northwest plays hosts to Little Elm. Bridgeport welcomes Pilot Point. Paradise travels to Sadler to play S&S Consolidated. Boyd takes on Nocona at home. Chico heads to Petrolia. Alvord opens at home with Electra.
BOYD UNVEILS MONUMENTS
In Texas, Friday Night heroes that capture state titles become legendary figures with their accomplishments etched in stone.
Well, that is now literally the case in Boyd, where the state champion football teams from 1983 and 2004 and the 1958 regional champions have monuments just outside the north end zone.
Boyd ISD will have public unveiling of the three monuments before the kickoff of the Yellowjackets’ season opener against Nocona Friday. There will be a meal and reception for players and coaches from those teams at 5:30 p.m. in the Boyd High School cafeteria.
DOVE SEASON OPENS
It’s happy season for hunters and fishermen.
Sept. 1 is a big day for Wise County outdoorsmen. Dove season starts, and the fishing regulations change on Lake Bridgeport. The 14- to 18-inch slot length limit changes to a 14-inch minimum length limit. Daily bag will remain at five fish.
The change in length limit frees fishermen up, but it will also likely draw more fishermen and large tournaments to the lake. Brace yourself.
