#1 CHISHOLM TRAIL DAYS RODEO

Cowboys and cowgirls will saddle up this weekend for the Chisholm Trail Days Rodeo at the Wise County Fairgrounds in Decatur.

Rodeo performances are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission is $8. Kids age 12 and under are free. (This is good, cheap, family entertainment, folks!) On Saturday, there’s a parade through downtown Decatur at 5:30 p.m., followed by a hamburger supper at 6:30 p.m. at the Women’s Building on the fairgrounds. Proceeds from the rodeo will go to local fire departments.

#2 FUNDRAISER FOR THE BRAMLETTS

Jake Hooker and the Outsiders will take the stage at the Women’s Building Sunday to help raise money for Abby Bramlett and her family.

Abby was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer – Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, an inoperable tumor on her brain stem, and she’s currently undergoing experimental treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

The event will include a fish fry at 4 p.m., auction at 5:30, and the previously mentioned live music, 6-8 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children. They can be purchased at Patti’s Hair Parlor in Decatur, Victory Church, iCopy or James Wood Motors. Seating is limited to 350 people.

Abby is the 5-year-old daughter of Clay and Kelly Bramlett of Decatur.

Marty haggard

#3 MERLE HAGGARD TRIBUTE SHOW

Marty Haggard, oldest son of legendary country singer Merle Haggard, will perform a tribute to his dad Saturday at the Arcadia Theater in Bridgeport. He’ll perform his dad’s classic hits, plus originals from his own 40-year career in the music business. Marty will share childhood stories and memories of being at his dad’s side while he was writing and recording the songs we’ve come to love.

Advance tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce, 812 Halsell Street. Cost is $30 on the day of the show. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show starts at 7.

Bonus: Marty will be available after the show for a meet-and-greet and to sign autographs.
