#1 VOLLEYBALL BEGINS

Wise County volleyball teams hit the court Wednesday in preparation for the upcoming season. Many teams will play their first scrimmage just two days later, Friday. The first day the UIL allows regular season matches is Monday.

Last season, the Decatur Lady Eagles, Boyd Lady Yellowjackets, Chico Lady Dragons and Alvord Lady Bulldogs all made the playoffs. Boyd advanced to the 3A semifinal and lost to Goliad in five sets.

#2 CHURCH OF CHRIST BACK TO SCHOOL EVENT

Decatur Church of Christ will have its annual back-to-school event 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, providing goods and services for school-age children and their families.

Students entering kindergarten through sixth grade will receive a free backpack filled with school supplies, and there will be a delicious meal for the entire family. Kids can also get free haircuts and choose from a selection of gently used clothing.

Other fun things include face painting and free books.

#3 NRS’ ROCK AND ROLL ROUNDUP

NRS in Decatur has planned one last summer shebang – the Rock and Roll Denim Roundup.

The Roundup is a free event noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and will feature special guests Dale Brisby, Leroy Gibbons and Blayze Fallis from the TV show “Little Big Shots.” A dummy roping contest is 2:30 to 4 p.m. for kids ages 7 to 18, and there’s a Dale Brisby look-alike contest at 3 p.m. Live music from Raised Right Men is 4 to 5:30, and in between, you can visit food trucks, grab a snow cone and play games for prizes.

NRS is at 4650 South U.S. 81/287, just outside Decatur.
