After finishing his first year as school board president, Decatur ISD trustees reappointed Wade Watson to the post Monday.

Trustees chose to keep all the officers on the board the same with Matt Joiner as vice president and Cheri Boyd as secretary during its annual reorganization.

Watson is in his fifth year on the board.

“It’s an honor to lead this group of people as we make decisions for the district in favor of the students,” Watson said. “There’s a lot going on. It’s certainly a lot of information to assimilate.”

At the start of the meeting, the board welcomed Charlie Tibbels to the Place 6 spot. Tibbels ran unopposed for the seat previously held by Kevin Haney.

In other business, the board approved the refunding of the remaining $4.82 million from the $27.9 million bond package passed in 2008. The district is anticipating a savings of approximately $521,000 after the restructuring of the debt.
