Two Wise County elementary schools were picked among the 729 public schools on the Educational Results Partnership Honor Roll.

Decatur’s Rann Elementary and Boyd Elementary made the non-profit’s 2017-18 list for consistent high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement levels over time and a reduction in achievement gaps among student populations. Scores on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) from 2016-17 were used in the data for the honor roll.

Both Rann and Boyd Elementary showed gains in their subgroup scores for economic disadvantaged students and Hispanic students.

Rann Elementary, a kindergarten through fifth-grade campus, showed dramatic improvement in math, reading and science scores from 2015-16 to 2016-17.

“It’s an honor. This is not something we apply for,” said Rann Elementary Principal Kaci Cook. “This is the teachers’ hard work being noticed and appreciated. It’s a true reflection of our teachers and what they do day in and day out in the classroom.”

Boyd Elementary, a kindergarten through third-grade campus, had double-digit gains in math and reading results.

Boyd Elementary Principal Anke Bracey pointed out that the campus also received acknowledgment for earning all the Texas Education Agency’s distinctions applicable for the campus.

“Our scores on STAAR have been really good. A lot of students performed on a high level,” Bracey said. “Our students and teachers have worked really hard. We challenge all of our kids to perform on a high level and reach their potential.”
