A teenager was removed from a Rhome middle school Monday morning after making a shooting threat.

Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin said the threat was made by a 14-year-old eighth grade student at Northwest’s Chisholm Trail Middle School.

“He came to school with a picture of an AR-15 and said that’s what he’s going to use to shoot up the school,” Akin said.

The comment was made to other students at the school.

The campus school resource officer, a Wise County Sheriff’s deputy, met with the student and took him into custody, Akin said. The case will be referred to juvenile probation for possible charges of terroristic threat.

Akin said he didn’t know why the student made the threat.

“We’re in the very early stages of the investigation,” he said.
