Police Chief Steve Stanford was named Citizen of the Year Saturday at the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet.

Kevin Holzbog, the 2017 Citizen of the Year, presented the award.

“Citizen of the Year goes to an individual that is supposed to be an outstanding citizen, committed to others before themselves,” Holzbog said. “When I found out who the winner was this year, I couldn’t think of anyone who embodied that more.”

Stanford, who was in New Mexico skiing with his wife for their 10th anniversary, was not able to accept the award in person.

The chamber also recognized the following individuals and businesses:

  • Melynda Lilly, Ambassador of the Year
  • Five Boys Ranch, Small Business of the Year
  • Brookshire’s, Corporate Business of the Year
  • Billy Newsome, Humanitarian Award
  • Pam Lanfear, Director of the Year
  • Tambra Correll, Presidential Award

Following the awards presentations, the chamber hosted a live auction. The big ticket item, a seven-day stay in the Tuscany region in Italy, sold for $4,000.

At the end of the night, Chamber President Pam Lanfear passed the torch to Terry Everett.

“This is what happens when you’re late to a meeting,” Everett joked. “They make you president.”
