As the Boyd Yellowjackets and Bridgeport Bulls get their final hits in before the start of the regular season, they will be reaching out a helping hand Thursday.

The two schools will hold a canned food drive during their scrimmage, which starts with the junior varsity squads squaring off at 5:30 p.m. The varsity teams will follow.

Fans are asked to bring a canned food to donate to Wise Area Relief Mission (W.A.R.M.) for admission. Fans may also make a monetary donation to the charity.

Bridgeport Athletic Director Shannon Wilson said the school wanted to reach out and help W.A.R.M., and the matchup with Boyd provided a good opportunity. Bridgeport and Decatur schools had traditionally held a food drive with the Battle of Big Sandy.

“We’re both Wise County schools. It’s a chance to continue helping that organization,” Wilson said.
