With the Rhome community reeling after Sgt. Robin Adair, 61, went missing Tuesday in Kentucky, the usually feisty Rhome City Council meeting began on a somber note as residents and council members came together to share a moment of silence for the officer.

After the show of unity and a prayer seeking peace and closure to the Adairs, the council meeting returned to normal processions.

Atop the agenda was filling Seat 1, recently made vacant after former councilman Charles Pennington missed three consecutive meetings.

As of Thursday night, five candidates have expressed interest in filling the seat.

The council did not take any action to fill the seat Thursday night, but did propose submitting a yet-to-be completed list of questions to candidates, set to be answered during a question-and-answer session at the next council meeting.

The council agreed to provide candidates the list of questions before the meeting. Applications to fill the position will be accepted until the night of the meeting, Oct. 27.

The term for the seat expires in May 2019.

Applications are available on the City of Rhome website. Contact City Secretary Shannon Montgomery for questions on the application process and how to receive the list of questions.

Other items of note:

The Rhome Schoolhouse roof construction is complete.

Interlocal agreement for fire protection and first responder service with Tarrant and Wise county was approved.
