Reader’s Choice 2018: Giant Burger, Best Burger

The big burgers fresh off the grill draw in his friends, but what Masoud “Mason” Farhadi hopes brings them back is the warm service and commitment to quality.

To him, every customer at Giant Burger in Rhome is truly a guest.

“I always have loved serving and love being with the people,” he said. “We’ve been here the last 17 years, and it’s such a small community that I know 85 to 90 percent of the people and I always call them by their name. Most people come back because they know I care about them.”

The service, along with the hot, fresh and juicy burgers, made Giant Burger, located at 405 B.C. Rhome Avenue, the choice for Best Burger in the annual Reader’s Choice poll.

“I’ve been doing it a long time and always try to do my best for the customer,” said Farhadi, who has been in the food service industry for more than 30 years. “It’s about caring for what you make, caring for the customer and making sure they leave happy. I don’t want a one-time customer. I want them to come back.”

Over the past two decades, the independently-owned Giant has built a loyal following from across Wise County with smile-inducing burgers. Truck drivers regularly stop in on the journey up and down U.S. 81/287 to get a fresh meal. Many people who end up moving away usually will stop back in.

“I had some customers that moved to Wichita Falls and last week they came back after being gone for a year and half. They said, ‘Mason, we’re here for my wife’s birthday. All she wanted from me was to take her to Giant Burger,'” Farhadi said. “That was very kind. I appreciated that.”

Each 10-ounce burger that lives up to its name starts with fresh ground meat that is never frozen. The burger patties hit the grill as buns are toasted. Customers can pick all their fixins to have the burger just the way they want, including grilled onions or jalape os. Add in fresh fries and there’s no way to leave hungry.

“It’s like they can make at their own house or like their mom or grandma would make at home,” Farhadi said. “But I have some customers that come with their family and say it’s cheaper and faster than they can make themselves.”

He adds that the restaurant’s grill is in the open so everyone can see the burgers and other items freshly cooked.

Along with the tasty burgers, Giant Burger offers grilled chicken and Philly steak sandwiches at lunch time. Many regulars stop in throughout the morning for breakfast sandwiches or fresh breakfast burritos.

“It’s always fresh. There’s no artificial eggs. We make everything from scratch,” Farhadi said.

Along with thanking his loyal customers, he praised his tireless employees. Many have been with him for several years.

“I couldn’t do it without them,” he said.
