After working more than twice their normal calls in the month of January and running into some unexpected expenses, Paradise Volunteer Fire Department is requesting donations to replace damaged equipment.

Chief John Neal posted a GoFundMe page, gofundme.com/paradise-vfd-emergency-fundraiser, Sunday asking the public to support the department.

“We are in need of multiple sets of protective gear, replacement hose and repair to apparatus,” Neal wrote.

The department is asking for $20,000: $10,400 for a pump replacement on an engine, $7,560 for 18 sets of wildland gear and $1,500 for a ventilation fan.

Paradise responded to 57 calls in January alone, for a total of 857 man hours. The department is entirely volunteer-operated.

“[We are] funded completely by our community donations,” Neal wrote on the GoFundMe page. “As our community also knows, we are having a huge influx of new housing coming from Dallas-Fort Worth that will put an even larger strain on our budget.”

Donations can also be made via Pay Pal to paradisevfd@yahoo.com.
