Dr. Daniel O’Meara has been named the new dean at Weatherford College Wise County.

O’Meara will relocate to Wise County from Hastings, Neb., where he serves as the associate dean of instruction at Central Community College.

At a dean candidate forum last month, O’Meara said he was excited about the possibilities for WCWC after visiting the campus for the first time.

“The potential is so great at this campus. When I drove around last night, I said this is a wonderful place to settle down. This is a magnet point. There’s a road out there (U.S. 380), there’s parking, there’s facilities and there’s room for expansion. What more could a person want?” he said.

His higher education career also includes work at Arkansas State University, Cochise College and Pima Community College.

He completed his associate’s degree in his late 20s at Cochise College in Douglas, Ariz., before earning additional degrees at the University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University and Drexel University in Philadelphia, where he completed his doctorate degree in education in 2012.

“Originally from Venezuela, O’Meara grew up in a multi-cultural, multi-lingual home that he said instilled a high level of creativity, communication skills and cultural competency that will aid him in his role at WCWC,” the college said in press release.

Former Dean, Dr. Matt Joiner, left the college a year ago to pursue a career with the Region 11 Education Service Center in Fort Worth. Becki Byrd has served as interim WCWC dean during the search.

O’Meara will begin his duties June 4.
