Brian Moore defeated Scott Walz 298 votes to 162 votes, between Denton and Wise counties, to win Position 4 on the Slidell School Board.

Moore had served on the Slidell board six to eight years ago and was confident going into Tuesday’s election.

“I didn’t put out signs or campaign super well,” he said. “I just went off the fact that people knew me, and I was on the board once before, so I have a good track record there.

Moore said he previously got off the board because he “had a lot of things going on at the time,” but he looks forward to the challenges of hiring a new superintendent, following the retirement of Superintendent Greg Enis, and helping continue Enis’ strong academic UIL program.

“He built a strong program there, and I want to keep that going,” he said.

Walz said he was disappointed by the results.

“Of course, I would have liked to have won,” he said. “I have two granddaughters who go to school there, and another one on the way. I hope Brian does what’s best for the school district. My main concern is that the kids are taken care of.”

Walz said this was likely his “first and last foray into politics,” but said with a laugh that his wife was encouraging him to run again.

Slidell ISD also stretches into parts of Montague and Cooke counties, but the candidates received no votes from that part of the district. According to Slidell ISD Business Manager Irene Wilson, Montague County has no registered voters in Slidell ISD, and Cooke County has seven, none of which voted in this race.

Other candidates who were elected to the Slidell School Board in uncontested races include:

  • Trumanell Maples, Position 1
  • Johnny Zuniga, Position 2
  • Kimberly Dunlap, Position 3
  • Keira Franklin, Position 7.
