Bridgeport ISD trustees named Mallory Marr the new principal of Bridgeport Intermediate School Monday night.

Mallory Marr

Marr, the assistant principal at the middle school, will take over from Rita Lemoine, who is retiring this summer. Marr has worked for Bridgeport ISD since 2013 as an English teacher, coach and ESL campus coordinator. She became interim assistant principal at Bridgeport Middle School in 2015 and assistant principal in 2016.

“I’m excited,” Marr told the board after they approved her contract, and board president Tom Talley said, “We’re excited, too.”

The board also promoted Steve Sturdivant, a high school teacher, to director of maintenance and operations. The former director, Kurt Kronenberger, is also retiring this summer. Sturdivant will work under Kronenberger until he retires.

“I’m going to learn as much as I can, be a sponge,” Sturdivant said.

The STAAR scores for fifth and eighth grade reading and math are in, and Assistant Superintendent Adam Hile reported the scores all went up.

“There were a lot of people who worked extremely hard for those scores,” Superintendent Brandon Peavey said.

The rest of the STAAR tests were completed this week.

The board also:

  • recognized students who qualified for state events, including Jadon Maddux, who finished third in the class 4A 100 at the UIL track and field championships, and freshman Jacob Richey, who placed fifth in editorial writing at the UIL state academics meet.
  • recognized high school yearbook teacher and UIL coordinator Cindy Berry as employee of the month.
  • recognized Joey Reyes, a high school math teacher, as the secondary teacher of the year, and Jennifer Richey, a kindergarten teacher, as the elementary teacher of the year.
  • voted to keep the board officers the same – president, Talley; vice president, Charles Mauldin; secretary, Scott Hiler; and assistant secretary, Alan Powers.
